No community flagpole for Kitchener

No rainbow flags will fly at Kitchener City Hall as councillors rejected a proposal for a community flagpole.
The current policy states that only the Canadian, Ontario and Kitchener city flags can be flown at the nearly 30 flagpoles at city facilities.
President of Tri-Pride, Sasa Kahrimanovic tells 570 News he can understand why residents would want a community flagpole in the city.
“We are a diverse region, we are a diverse city, and over the past 20 years we have become even more diverse.”
Although many delegations were heard at Monday’s council meeting, Kahrimanovic says they do not have a stance on the issue at this time.
“We didn’t have enough information, and we still don’t have enough information really to make any to comment on it. As the board we have to sit down and discuss it.”
The city’s flag policy came under fire three months ago, when the city denied a request to fly the rainbow flag during the Sochi Olympics as a show of support for gay athletes.
