Today kicks off emergency preparedness week, which means it’s a good time to update your kit.
Blankets, flashlights and batteries, as well as 72 hours worth of water and food is ideal.
Rob Bromley is the Emergency Preparedness Planner at Region of Waterloo Public Health. He tells 570 News what you should do to ensure your emergency kit is up to date.
“Water doesn’t necessarily have an expiration date, but a good idea is to go in, I’d say once a month and circulate that through. Power bars, those kinds of things … have expirations dates usually a year and a half, two years in advance so go through every six months or so and change those out to make sure they’re still edible.”
Bromley says the average person needs about two litres of water per day and says you should also include food that wont spoil and a list of emergency contacts.
Make sure not to forget Fido in your emergency plans, as Bromley also says pets are often forgotten when making emergency kits.
