GRCA opens parks for 60th season

Campers and hikers rejoice, as Grand River Conservation Authority is opening up nine parks Thursday, May 1 for their 60th season.

Laurel Creek, Shade’s Mills, and Elora Gorge are among the parks that are now open.

Dave Schultz, Communications Manager, say while nothing big is planned for the 60th anniversary, they’re going to continue to do what they do best.

“Offer a first class experience to people that want to come out and go camping or have a nice picnic.”

He does say though that a new innovation is a membership card.

“A $125 card, it’s a swipe card, that gets you in to all of our parks for the entire season. In addition to that benefit, people can also get some freebies like a free canoe rental or a free tubing experience – things like that. So there is a lot of good benefits to people who want to experience our parks and try something new.”

Hikers are reminded to be careful around any down trees or obstacles, and follow any signs.

The full details from GRCA are listed below:

· Conestogo Lake, Drayton: Opening will be delayed to May 15 to allow more time for the cleanup.
