Oktoberfest glockenspiel may return to Kitchener

A downtown Kitchener landmark, which was put into storage five years ago may once again plant itself at Speaker’s Corner.

Council will vote later this month whether they will pitch in almost half of the costs to re-errect the Oktoberfest glockenpiel at King and Benton streets. The momument was built in Holland and installed in downtown Kitchener in 1976.

The estimated cost to fix and reinstall the glockenspiel is $392,000 and council vote on April 28th whether to pitch in up to $196,000.

Some area residents have weighed in on what they think of the possibility.
