Students across the Region were walking, jogging, skipping or biking to school today for Spring into Spring – an initiative encouraging more students to discover the joy of walking.
There was a steady stream of walkers heading into Courtland Avenue Public School, who enjoy walking to school.
Spring into Spring is part of Active & Safe Routes to School, a community-based initiative promoting active transportation to school, and traffic safety issues across Canada.
They say “walking is simple and efficient physical activity that benefits people of all ages, helps to maintain good health, is environmentally friendly and fun.”
The group also claims that if nine families regularly walk to school it can collectively prevent almost 1,000 kg of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.
