563,000 now call Waterloo Region home

Waterloo Region’s population continues to grow.

The region’s latest figures show, that as of the end of last year, 563,000 people called this area home.

That represent a 1.2% population increase from 2012, which is slightly higher than the previous year, but still trending below the 15 year average rate of 1.75%.

As for the cities, Kitchener boasts a population of just under 234,000, Cambridge is at just under 133,000 and Waterloo checks in at about 131,000.

The statistics were tabulated using national Census figures, but also include university and college students temporarily residing in the Region, which the Census does not include.
