Smith inquest winding down

The Ashley Smith inquest resumes tomorrow in Toronto.
Corrections Canada will be the next group to makes its final submissions.
The New Brunswick teen died at Kitchener’s Grand Valley Institution for Women back in October of 2007. She had tied ligatures around her neck.
Two groups, including Smith’s family want the jury to come back with a verdict of homicide.
But, Colin Perkel with The Canadian Press tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show, such a verdict at an inquest does not imply criminal intent.
“Everybody agrees, nobody meant to kill Ashley Smith…but they’re arguing by the
orders to stay out of the cell and not doing more to protect her, there is that notion of homicide, somebody did actually contribute to her death.”
Perkel expects a verdict will come down in a few weeks.
