Local efforts to assist with disaster relief

The official death toll is over 17-hundred — and emergency aid just can’t come fast enough.
Friday’s massive typhoon has devastated the Philippines, prompting international — and local disaster relief efforts.
The President the United Filipino-Canadian Society of Waterloo Region, Menshu Bradshaw says there isn’t a short-term solution for this tragedy, that it is going to take years to recover from something of this magnitude.
She is collecting blankets, clothing and toiletries and can be reached at 519 729 9094. She encourages Waterloo Region residents to donate if they can.
Rogers customers can also donate to the Red Cross — just send a text message that says REDCROSS to 30333.
