Once again the controversial white poppy and red poppy topic is present leading up to Remembrance Day.
Some Ottawa University students have hopped aboard the left-wing Rideau Institute’s white poppy campaign. The group of students claim the red poppy represents blood and war while the white poppy is a symbol for peace.
Secretary of the Poppy Remembrance Committee at the Royal Canadian Legion, Bill Maxwell, told 570’s Gary Doyle Show that the red poppy does not glorify war and he thinks its sad that they are using Remembrance Day to further their cause.
Maxwell adds that the red poppy stands for sacrifice and all the soldiers who did not return to our country.
The students are free to advocate for peace, but Maxwell says they are using the wrong approach.
