The Waterloo Region District School Board is looking for the public’s opinion on altering school bell times. This in an effort to make transportation systems more cost efficient with a maximum savings of just over a million dollars. Here are some of the financial savings if the bell times were to be changed:
Plus or minus 10 minutes, estimated savings $430,000.
Plus or minus 20 minutes, estimated savings $930,000.
Plus or minus 30 minutes, estimated savings $1,050,000.
The extra time before and after the current bell schedule would allow using the same bus multiple times to pick up students rather than using more buses.
The current proposal means:
92 schools will change by 10 minutes or less
45 schools will have no change at all
12 schools will change by +/- 15 minutes
14 schools will change by +/- 20 minutes
You can have your voice heard on the school board’s website. The survey is open until November 14, 2013.
