Waterloo to debate smoke-free parks tonight

An issue that’s been gaining traction province-wide goes before Waterloo City Council tonight.
Councillors will consider a recommendation dealing with smoke-free parks and sports fields; essentially near where children play.
The recommendation calls on the region to look into that possibility with input from relevant stakeholders.
Kitchener city council meantime tackles the issue of open government.
This afternoon, councillors will discuss building upon the city’s existing accountability and transparency policy.
At the meeting, staff will outline how to go beyond this policy to include a 20-year vision, a 4-year plan and the framework for Open Government at the city, as well as how to deal with open data.
The city is also wants to hear from residents to help identify priorities as it works towards an open data launch next year.
