Regional Students Learn About Arts and Culture

Grade 11 and 12 students from across the Region had the opportunity to attend the Arts and Culture ZOOM Career Day hosted by the Business and Education Partnership on Wednesday.
Students were able to work closely with industry professionals to learn about the many careers in Arts and Culture and how one can achieve them.
No one knows this better than Amanda Kind, the guest speaker at Wednesday’s event.
Amanda’s resume expands from working as Visual Design Supervisor for Drayton Entertainment, Vocal Director for KW Glee along with numerous awards, plays, and concerts under her belt.
She tells 570 News some tips those looking for a career in the arts can follow.
This includes:
– Believing in your potential
– You define you – watch what you post on Social Media
– Branding – knowing who you are and how to sell yourself
– Expand your knowledge on money, taxes and investments
She also says practice does not make perfect. “Practice makes permanent because there really is no such thing as perfect. Things are excellent, things are beautiful but perfect is this unattainable ideal that we keep striving toward.”
She adds to be successful; one has to be a jack of all trades.
“We no longer have one career as an artist. You have to have multiple streams of what you do. I am a singer, I am a graphic designer, I do a lot of marketing, I have some acting background, so I think you have to do multiple things to make a living as an artist now.”
She adds being kind and having a strong work ethic are things that will get you far in your career.
