Kitchener Rangers take over Woolwich for Labour Day clash

While many may be enjoying a day off work and school, the Kitchener Rangers still have work to do on Labour Day as they take on the Saginaw Spirit in a special home away-from-home contest in Woolwich.

Monday’s game marks the final leg of the 4-day “Summer Showcase” which has seen the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium host 5 different games between 4 different OHL teams, including multiple not involving the Rangers.

The Summer Showcase concludes Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, just north of St. Jacobs and roughly a twenty-minute drive from The Aud. The arena is no stranger to local hockey, as the Memorial Centre’s Dan Snyder Memorial Arena has played host to the Greater Ontario Hockey League’s Elmira Sugar Kings for 17 years since the facility opened in 2009.

The September 7 contest will mark Kitchener’s first off-site home exhibition game since playing against the Guelph Storm in Ayr back in September of 2022.

The Rangers enter Monday coming off of a series of highly competitive matchups against the Sarnia Sting, Oshawa Generals and Erie Otters. Kitchener has hosted every game, winning 2 of them, with each game being decided by just a single goal.

Across the ice in Woolwich, the Rangers will take on Michigan’s Saginaw Spirit for the first time in the new OHL campaign. The Spirit have played more preseason hockey than any team in the OHL, having completed a trilogy of inter-league games against the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Newfoundland Regiment at a number of venues through the end of August.

Labour Day’s summer showcase finale will conclude a busy weekend for the Rangers’ organization which included the highly-awaited Fan Fest event on Sunday. Sunday’s event included live entertainment, activities and rides for kids, and a Fan Fest BBQ.

Monday’s neutral-site game will provide another exciting opportunity for junior hockey fans, as a trio of prestigious trophies will be displayed at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.

The 2025-26 Kitchener Rangers’ trio of hardware includes the Memorial Cup, awarded to the Canadian Hockey League champion, the J. Ross Robertson Cup, awarded to the Ontario Hockey League champion, and the Wayne Gretzky Trophy, awarded to the champion of the Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference.

All three iconic trophies will be on display and available to take pictures with for those who attend Monday’s action.

Rangers authentics will have a pop-up vendor at the event to allow Rangers fans to grab their merchandise and apparel for the new season, including the long-awaited 2026 Memorial Cup Champion merchandise.

The Rangers’ community division known as Rangers Reach will also have a pop-up at the arena, allowing fans to see the team’s commitment to supporting its local community first-hand.
