Jobless rate falls in September

The jobless rate is down to its lowest level since December of 2008.

The September rate slipped two notches to 6.9 per cent from 7.1 as young people headed back to school and fewer sought employment.

Close to 12-thousand jobs were created, better than the estimated 10-thousand.

Gains for financial and natural resource sectors offset losses for manufacturing and public administration.

September’s unemployment rate in Waterloo Region dropped from 8 to 7.3 per cent. Guelph’s was also down at 6.8 per cent.
