Leafs open NHL season in Montreal

The NHL is back tonight with three games, including the Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal.

You can listen to the game on 570 News at 7pm.

It will be the first of five meetings between the Original Six rivals. Toronto won three of those five meetings last season.

The Leafs landed former Kitchener Rangers forward David Clarkson in the
summer, but he’s serving a ten game suspension handed out in the pre-season.

Other games tonight have the Oilers home to Winnipeg and Washington at Chicago.

The NHL will also be going with the hybrid icing rule this season. Instead of racing to the end boards for the puck to trigger icing, players will race to an imaginary line across the faceoff dots. The move is designed reduce injuries that happen when players slam against the boards at full speed.
