Ontario N-D-P Leader Andrea Horwath says she and Premier Kathleen Wynne didn’t discuss the possibility of a fall election when they met briefly to talk about a fall legislative agenda.
Horwath says the premier’s threat to call an election if the Liberals can’t get any bills through the legislature didn’t come up.
She says she told Wynne the N-D-P expects her to use the fall session to keep promises to cut auto insurance rates, lower home care wait times and help young people find jobs.
Horwath says she didn’t get the kind of commitment she wanted from Wynne, but wouldn’t say how long she’ll wait for the Liberals to keep the commitments they made in last spring’s budget.
Wynne’s efforts to work out a legislative deal with Progressive Conservative Tim Hudak failed last week, with the Opposition leader complaining the premier has no plans for the economy and job creation.
The premier believes there are non-partisan items that can be dealt with, such as a local food act and a ban on teens using tanning beds, both of which she wants passed this fall.
