The City of Kitchener has released a statement regarding the closure of the Boathouse at Victoria Park.
The City of Kitchener delivered an arrears notice to the operator of The Boathouse giving 30 days to meet the terms of the lease agreement. At this time, the business is not in compliance with the lease agreement but the operator remains in control of the premises. The operator is in arrears amounting to over five months of rent and utilities. The city has not taken action on this letter as the operator has until the end of the day to address the arrears.
City staff and council worked closely with the operator toward compliance with the lease, and are still hopeful that the arrears will be paid. The city will know if any action is required on our next day of business.
The city recognizes the importance of this venue; we are optimistic that there is a viable future for the Boathouse.
