Waterloo requesting railway info

Waterloo City Council has passed a motion that all railway companies travelling through Waterloo provide railway traffic information to the city’s fire chief.

Kitchener recently passed a similar motion.

The rule change is a response to recent train derailments in Alberta and Quebec, as well as Waterloo.

A train derailed in the uptown core in the fall of last year.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities formed a national municipal rail safety working group to address the concerns of railway safety with the federal government and Canada’s railway industry following the recent tragedies.
