BlackBerry close to buyout?

BlackBerry may be getting closer to a buyout.

The shares of the Waterloo-based smartphone company are climbing this morning by six per cent on speculation about a deal that may include the Canada Pension Plan.

Fairfax Financial Chairman, Prem Watsa, who owns 10 per cent of the company, is already the largest shareholder in BlackBerry.

According to the Sunday Times, Watsa is working on a full-buyout with the backing of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

The Times says several other large pension funds are expected to join the buyout consortium.
