You could say Waterloo Region is at the centre of the Co-op education universe.
Not only does the University of Waterloo boast the world’s largest co-op program, it’s also is home to Canada’s top co-op students.
Henry Shi is in the computer sciences program and recently completed an internship at Bloomberg Sports in New York.
Taking a page from “Moneyball”, the hit movie starring Brad Pitt, Shi worked on a team that developed software for a Major League Baseball team that helped coaches analyze the pitching staffs of other teams.
Shi tells 570’s Gary Doyle Show, he can’t say what role the software played in the team’s success, but it did go from the bottom of the standing to the top of its division once it started using it.
As for the university’s co-op program, Shi highly recommends it.
He says going to school for four months and then working for four months is a good change of pace and it gives you a real feel for what to expect in the real world.
