Fraud Prevention Month

March is fraud prevention month Waterloo Regional Police in partnership with the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ontario Provincial Police and municipal police services are participating in Fraud Prevention Month.

Over 2000 cases of fraud were reported in 2012. Police advise shredding of important documents and reporting any lost or stolen wallets.

Identity theft accounts for approximately 15% of local calls for service.

Internet fraud constitutes approximately 20% of fraud-related investigations.
