The debate is heating up over the potential of a casino being located in Waterloo Region.
Today, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation President and CEO Rod Phillips will speak about the issue at a Greater K-W of Commerce event.
That’s slated for the noon hour at Bingemans.
Last night at Regional Council, Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr tabled a notice of motion for March 6th that the region have some say in any decision about a potential casino being located here.
A notice of motion technically is not to be debated, but some councillors followed up Zehr’s motion with a request for legal advice on whether council has any jurisdiction if a community within the region votes to accept a casino.
Those councillors including Rob Deutschmann and Sean Strickland.
In the end, Regional Chair Ken Seiling said staff would be asked to provide “some information” on this issue.
