Downtown Kitchener’s Centre Block Development is moving along once again.
Kitchener City Council has given the developers until the end of August to show they have enough sales to push the project into the development phase.
The Mayfair Hotel, which was originally part of the development is now being severed, in order to be the first element of the project, and moving the development of the Centre Block forward.
Councillor Dan Glenn-Graham tells 570 News that this building will be a catalyst for the rest of the project.
“I’m really excited to say that that’s going to be moving forward as the first element of the entire project. So that’s (the Mayfair) going to be a huge catalyst and a vote of confidence in the downtown.”
When the Centre Block is complete, the city hopes will instill new life and vibrancy to the downtown.
