Change clocks, check batteries

We turn the clocks back one hour on Saturday and with that Waterloo Fire Rescue says it’s also the perfect time to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
Spokesperson for Waterloo Fire Rescue, John Percy tells 570 News if you have electrical smoke alarms without battery backup and the power goes off they won’t operate.
Percy also suggests that if you have battery operated smoke alarms you should change the batteries at least once a year and test them regularly.
In Ontario, the law states that homeowners need to have working smoke alarms on every floors as well as outside sleeping areas.
For existing properties in Waterloo, Percy recommends you have one carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home as well.
