Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver promoted the Federal government’s 2012 Economic Action Plan during a visit to Kitchener Wednesday afternoon.
Oliver spoke to a group at the Communitech Hub, noting the success of the local tech sector. “This region has become one of North America’s leading clusters of technology, commercialization expertise, industrial research and development and venture and early stage capital,” he said.
While speaking with reporters following his speech, Oliver pointed out job growth as a top priority, “we’re going to continue to work in that direction. The Economic Action Plan 2012 is focused on jobs,” he explained.
Specifically, Oliver says the government is working to make the manufacturing and innovation sector more competitive as a way to create high quality jobs.
However, during he speech he also noted that Canada still faces economic challenges. “Though Canada is emerging from the global economic recession, many Canadians, too many Canadians, are still looking for work,” he said. “Beyond our boarders the global economy remains fragile and any potential setbacks would have an impact on Canada.”
Oliver ended the visit with a tour of the Communitech Hub.
