The countdown is on for parents of secondary school students in the Region to submit their child’s completed immunization record to the Public Health Department.
Failing to do so could result in suspension.
With the elementary school immunization process recently finished, parents of high schoolers have until May 8 to provide updated records to Public Health. Linda Black, manager of Vaccine Preventable Diseases for Region of Waterloo Public Health, tells 570 News, students without completed records could be suspended for up to 20 days or until documentation is received.
“We certainly don’t want to be suspending kids, and we try our very best to make sure that kids aren’t suspended, but in the end, it’s for the health of the entire population of the Region of Waterloo”, says Black.
Black says parents may get any required immunizations from their family doctor or at walk-in clinics this month at the Region’s Public Health offices in Waterloo and Cambridge.
