Stanley Cup at THEMUSEUM

The Stanley Cup was on display this afternoon at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener.
Hundreds of kids and parents began their March Break with a chance to stand next to, and take pictures with the cup.
It was an exciting day for the kids, some of whom described the experience as “awesome,” “pretty cool,” and “probably one of the best days of my life.”
Hockey Hall of Fame curator and “Keeper of the Cup,” Phil Pritchard, says it isn’t called the “Holy Grail” for nothing. “For picking it up and hoisting it over their head, that’s reserved for the few that have actually won it,” he explains. “The players won’t pick it up, or even go near it unless they’ve won it.”
There are actually three Stanley Cups. The original bowl sits in a vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame. There’s also the presentation cup, which is presented each year to the Stanley Cup champions and the replica that sits at the Hall of Fame.
The last team to hoist the original bowl was the Boston Bruins in 1970.
The Stanley Cup is the oldest professional sports trophy in North America.
