Two men charged in cattle fraud

Two Elmira men are facing charges in connection with cattle fraud.

OPP launched an investigation into “Central Ontario Cattle Ltd” last March.

This company bought and sold livestock throughout Canada and the USA, most commonly operating within Midwestern Ontario.

Police located victims in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island.

Between June and August 2010 investigators say “Central Ontario Cattle Ltd.” purchased cattle with company issued cheques totalling in excess of 2.2 million dollars.

56-year-old Merle Shantz and 57-year-old Howard Bauman are facing a number of charges including fraud over $5,000.

Both men will appear in court next month.
