Some 200,000 customers affected by massive power outage on Wednesday

The power should now be back on for most if not all area residents affected by a massive outage that began yesterday afternoon.

At its height, it’s estimated upwards of 200,000 customers were without electricity in Guelph, Waterloo, Elmira, Breslau and a large swath of Wellington County.

The power went out around 2:30 yesterday afternoon with the outage blamed on a Hydro One transmission line which feeds the affected areas.

Waterloo North Hydro says, at one point, 70% of its customers were affected.

As of around 8:30 last night, almost all power here had been restored, other than a few isolated pockets, which it was working on.
