A Kitchener Rangers grad is having a season to remember in the NHL.
David Clarkson has 21 goals with the New Jersey Devils this season and is also two points from tying his career best in points.
Clarkson was a guest on Hockey Central at Noon on Sportsnet Ontario and says its great to have former Rangers coach Pete Debeor behind the bench.
“I think that obviously it helps a little bit. But it’s been fun, the team is playing great and all the guys in the room love Pete as a coach and that’s really what’s making things go the right way right now.”
When asked about his success this season, the 27 year old credit’s his teammates, his coach and more playing time.
“I’m getting an opportunity to play with guys that I’m playing with, and being on the powerplay you’re going to get chances. Early in the season I was getting chances and it wasn’t going in. It’s tough, you just have to stick with it.”
Clarkson and Deboer won an OHL title and Memorial Cup with the rangers in 2003.
The Devils host St. Louis tonight looking to take their winning streak to 6 games.
