Freezing Rain Warning

We could be in for a bit of a messy drive this afternoon.
A freezing rain warning is in effect for Waterloo Region and surrounding areas.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada Geoff Coulson tells 570 News that the weather system is moving in from the states, “We are tracking a system currently down in southern Indiana, and it is expected to track south of the lower great lakes during the course of today, really bringing a mix of precipitation, not only in Waterloo Region, but much of southern Ontario.”
“We are expecting it to start falling in the Kitchener-Waterloo area this afternoon, initially with snow. That will then be mixed, by late this afternoon, or into the evening hours, with ice pellets and freezing rain, before eventually changing right over to rain in the late evening hours.”
Coulson adds, the drive into work tomorrow could also be tricky, “So that means the rain will actually change to snow Friday morning before finally ending and tapering off to a few flurries Friday afternoon. So a real combination of precipitation, a lot of changes going on right around the freezing mark.”
