How would you like to get to Toronto in about 20 minutes from Waterloo Region?
A conceptualized High Speed Rail line linking the Windsor – Quebec City corridor by 2025 could promise to do just that, but one problem. The current plan doesn’t include a station in the region, and Director of Transportation Planning Graham Vincent is hoping to change that, “we believe that as the 10th largest Census Metropolitan Area in Canada that we have a real demand for better passenger train service to our area.”
Today, Planning & Works committee approved forwarding a report to Transport Canada and the Minister of Transportation Ontario advocating to be included in future studies into High Speed Rail, ” the next studies that are going to be under-taken, is the need for an inter-city transportation master-plan, which we would agree with. Also the assessment study to proceed with the High Speed rail service.”
The High Speed Rail feasibility study reports KW and Toronto aren’t far enough apart to provide competitive service and also that GO Transit Train service provides commuter rail service, linking the region to Toronto.
