The Region of Waterloo International Airport has landed another major airline.
American Eagle will begin flying to Chicago in June. When the flights begin June 14th, there will be 13 round trip flights per week.
This project has been about 2 years in the making and General Manager of the Region of Waterloo Airport, Chris Wood, tells 570 News “Chicago, overwhelmingly was the city that people want to go to. It’s not only a destination in itself, but it’s a fantastic connection spot, you can go anywhere in the world from Chicago.”
Managing Director of Government Affairs for American Eagle Airlines, Dale Morris says beginning flights between Waterloo and Chicago makes sense, “We have our own economic models that we look at, fleet allocation models that we look at, and a route has to be able to stand through that test and it projected very well in this area. And then combined with your great community support, it came to fruition.” “It’s a huge day for us and we’re proud to be a part of the community.”
Wood adds it’s great to see their hard work paying off, “You’ve got government and business and the airport staff all working together for the same goal, and American really picked up on it actually…they see lots of cities that they start service and they don’t get the support from the community.”
