Health & Life Sciences wing grand opening

The official grand opening ceremony of the new Conestoga College “F” wing was today.

It’s the new home of the Health & Life Sciences branch.

President of Conestoga College, Dr. John Tibbits told 570 News the facility is here thanks to collaboration between the three levels of government, “and the local community. It’s been a huge collaborative effort. It will also ramp up our ability to improve capacity, but we’re going to change the quality of education. It will be a higher level of training, with that simulation focus.”

Tibbits credits having a vision and plan and a little bit of luck in order to get the funding for this expansion..pointing to the stimulus spending that came out of the economic downfall in late 2008.

Minister of State for Science and Technology, Gary Goodyear said this new wing offers state of the art education, “this is the future of education right now, where students get the ability to work with simulators that actually simulate real environment.”

Goodyear said Conestoga College is a real community of learning, forward thinking and congratulates its President, Dr. John Tibbits and the rest of the staff.

Executive Dean for the School of Health & Life Sciences, Marlene Raasok told 570 News this new wing is critical because it brings all the health sciences disciplines together into one place, “we need to learn and share together if we’re going to work together in the field. In addition, this building bring real life learning and technology enhanced learning to a place we’ve never been before. This is for the future.”

Raasok says this is the greatest day for the college, because it’s now better positioned to be there for their students.

The wing has been in operation since the start of the school year.
