R.I.D.E campaign launch

It clearly is the start of the holiday season rush, as Waterloo Regional Police and the OPP launch their Festive R.I.D.E campaigns today, aimed at keeping drunk drivers off the road.

The campaigns run through New Year’s Day.

Regional Police Chief Matt Torigian says the “R.I.D.E program builds awareness around the importance of driving sober and is a reminder to our community that making appropriate transportation arrangements is vital to both personal and public safety.”

During last year’s Festive R.I.D.E. program, Regional Police stopped over 8,600 vehicles and conducted 65 roadside tests.

Two impaired driving and five over-80mg charges were laid.

Another 13 three-day suspensions were handed out.
