Freezing rain warning

A freezing rain warning is out from Environment Canada. The agency says it’s expected to arrive this evening and could continue for three to six hours. We could get two to five millimetres of freezing rain before it ends overnight.
The warning includes Waterloo Region, Guelph, Erin, Northern and Southern Wellington County, Mount Forest and Arthur.
Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, Geoff Coulson says this could be the first real hit of nasty weather this season. “The way the fall has shaped up so far: temperatures generally on the mild side. Any real precipitation we’ve experienced, generally, throughout the Kitchener-Waterloo region, has been in the form of rain,” he says. “So, this really is the first storm system where we are going to be flirting with potentially freezing rain.”
That means drivers should be prepared for slippery conditions on the roads.
The manager of Dominion Driving School in Cambridge, Gord Bartlett, says many drivers are caught off guard by the first hit of bad weather. “Slow down. Give yourself a little more time when you’re leaving in the morning,” he suggests.
In addition to more time, Bartlett says don’t hammer on the brakes. “Do not lock your wheels or you’re going to go into a slide right through intersections. So, a little bit of easy pressure and the car will slow down, and you will be able to control your steering and come to a stop without going into a slide,” he explains.
