Poppy scam

On the heels of a poppy box theft in Toronto, an apparent poppy fraud has sprung up in the region.
The KW Poppy Fund is complaining of a scam targeting them and that at least one person has fallen victim, apparently donating $200 in vein.
Public Relations Officer Bob Berg tells 570 News the fraudsters try to get a donation made by credit card, claiming over the telephone to be affiliated to the KW Poppy Fund.
That is not the way they operate.
“I might not be saying the right words here, but I’m a little bit pissed-off, because we don’t operate that way. Please do not make any donated for remembrance except through the KW Poppy House. If anybody calls, please do not give up your credit card number by any means.”
The KW Poppy Fund sends out envelopes loaded with a couple of poppies and info on how you can send the Poppy House money.
Berg says the people behind this are beneath scum, “that might be too good a name for that, I think a person like that, well, they do it because they can.”
Berg thinks the scam artists are preying on the trustworthy name and reputation of the organization.
If someone tries this scam on you, get as much information from them as you can and call the police.
