The 2011 Pan American Games open today in Mexico and Waterloo Region is sending five athletes including Kitchener boxer Mandy Bujold.
The 24-year-old will be fighting in her first Pan Am Games.
Bujold tells 570 News she’s peaking at the right time, it’s also the first time for women’s boxing which she says is exciting.
“I pretty much have a good idea of who’s going to be there and I have a game plan for each opponent.” Bujold said.
She’s hoping to use the Pan Am Games as a stepping stone to possibly representing Canada at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Bujold says these games are important to keep your ranking up.
She leaves for Mexico on Sunday and her first fight in Mexico is scheduled for Friday, October 21st.
The other athletes from Waterloo Region at the games are Brienne Stairs (Women’s Field Hockey) , Sharon Bowes (Women’s Shooting) , Grzegorz Sych (Men’s Shooting) , and Whitney McClintock (Water Skiing).
