The Kitchener Rangers have a thing for Thanksgiving Day.
They have won five straight matinees on this day.
Today at 1pm, Kitchener is home to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, with the broadcast starting at 12:30 on 570 News.
Kitchener’s first loss of the season came to the Hounds last weekend.
This is the 10th season in a row the Rangers have hosted the Thanksgiving Day matinee and the team’s Chief Operating Officer says it started as a way to tie into the Oktoberfest parade.
“I think for many of them (the players) it’s a new adventure, because they’ve never really seen Oktoberfest yet as we bring in new players in each year, so they get to see how the community transforms.” said Steve Bienkowski.
Bienkowski tells 570 News they may look at the possibility of hosting a game on Family Day in the future.
Kitchener is 6-2 and 1 in the Thanksgiving Day matinees. the tie coming in the first one versus the Guelph Storm back in 2002.
