Walk for Water

A “Walk for Water” – a long walk – is taking places starting this morning at 8 in Guelph.
The journey will take two days, ending tomorrow at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
Wellington Water Watchers are behind the trek, which they hope will attract upwards of 102 walkers, which just happens to be the distance from their starting point at Planet Bean – the Gordon Street Cafe – on Gordon Street to the Ontario legislature: 102 kilometres.
Their goal is to make preserving our water supply a provincial election issue.
The message they will deliver is “Water is not a commodity.”
Wellington Water Watchers Executive Director Arlene Slocombe says they are “dedicated to the protection, restoration and conservation of drinking water in Guelph and Wellington County,” but, while the walk sets out from Guelph, “we walk on behalf of all citizens of this Province who face the same lack of legislative protection for their life source – water.” She fears the issue is flying under the radar during this election campaign.
