The Riding of Cambridge was centre stage last night on 570News.com and Rogers T-V.
The six candidates, in alphabetical order: Atinuke Bankole – N-D-P, Allan Dettweiler – Libertarian, Rob Leone – P-C, Jacques Malette – Green Party, Kathryn McGarry – Liberal Party, Robert Ross – Independent, debated for two hours over issues of tax Increases, a stimulus package and the H-S-T, which is something that Liberal Candidate Katherine McGarry says will create jobs.
“It’s the first reform for tax since the 60’s, we don’t dress or eat the same, and we can’t do tax the same. It was the single most important thing that Ontario could do to gain 600,000 jobs in the next ten years.”
N-D-P candidate Atinuke Bankole argued that the H-S-T was unfair.
“It really took what should not be on the backs of everyday families and dumped it onto them. As the N-D-P we will take it off your home heating hydro.”
Progressive Conservative candidate Rob Leone said the H-S-T was the “symptom of a broken promise.”
Other hot topic issues were transportation infrastructure, and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital expansion.
Here’s what P-C candidate Rob Leone had to say about the C-M-H expansion.
“There’s so much money wasted in health care. If we didn’t have this E-Health boondoggle, a billion dollars, we would have enough money for four hospitals. We’re going to commit to investing 6.1 billion dollars in health care, closing the LHIN’s, it will throw three hundred million dollars into our health care system and invest 35 billions dollars over the next four year into our infrastructure. That’s how we’re going to pay for the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.”
Another issue was he Hydro Debt Retirement Fee.
Liberal candidate Katherine McGarry on what how her party will do about it.
“The Liberal government has offered 10 percent off with a clean energy benefit off of hydro rates since January, and will continue to do that for the next five years.”
N-D-P candidate Atinuke Bankole says her party will wipe the H-S-T off of the Hydro bill.
Green Party candidate Jacques Mallete says the most important thing to do, is your homework, before voting next month.
