Let’s just call it the pain before the gain.
Cambridge is getting two new Highway 401 rest stops, but they won’t open for at least year.
In the meantime, the two current ones are closing and will be demolished.
They’ll close for good at 10:00 this morning.
It’s part of a provincial plan to update the rest stops located along 400 series highways, many of which are decades old.
CTV reports the Cambridge closures will directly affect 350 people who work there selling food or manning the gas stations.
It’s also estimated that 9,000 motorists use those service centres every day.
The closure will also affect the picnic areas at those locations – they too will be shut down.
