Fed Dev Funding/Peter Braid

Getting kids interested in science, math, and technology. That’s the goal of Actua, a non-profit organization that conducts outreach activities to young people in the areas of science and technology.
Today, Kitchener-Waterloo MP Peter Braid announced that FedDev Ontario would be sending $1.25 million to Actua to help in their quest to prepare youth for today’s high tech economy.
The money will allow Actua to reach 17,000 young people across Southern Ontario through their outreach activities at summer camps, workshops and in the classroom. Braid says the focus will be placed on under-served youth such as aboriginal youth, at-risk youth and inner-city youth.
The funding is coming from FedDev’s youth STEM initiative. It is a program whose purpose is to support non-profit organizations doing outreach activities to young people from Kindergarten to Grade 12 to promote their interest and to encourage the pursuit of careers in science, technology, and math.
