Starting next year, GO Train riders will get a refund if their train is more than 15 minutes late.
That’s a guarantee from Premier Dalton McGuinty, who made the announcement today, saying the government wants to make travel easier for passengers, “any time that GO is in one of those extraordinary and unusual circumstances where GO is later than 15 minutes, we’re going refund you the fare associated with that particular trip”. The refunds will being next year if the Liberals are re-elected this fall.
However, there are some exceptions. Delays caused by extreme weather, police investigations, collisions and medical emergencies will not be part of the deal.
The one-way fare refunds will be given automatically through riders’ presto cards or from a customer sales rep.
GO Train service to Waterloo Region is expected to start by the end of the year.
