Waterloo’s Complete Street

In Waterloo, between 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Davenport Road will be closed between Foxhunt Road and Conestoga Mall for a street party.

We’re celebrating the opening of Waterloo’s first complete street.

We call this a complete street because this roadway not only accommodates cars and better manages speeding traffic, it also is designed to safely accommodate bicyclists, pedestrians, wheelchairs and transit users. It’s completely accessible.

There will be a number of family-friendly activities taking place along Davenport Road:

Conestoga Mall will have a portable skate park with West 49 Flow Team demonstrations, a live band, bike tune-ups from SportChek

Rangers Street Team and the University of Waterloo’s Alternate Fuel Vehicle Teams

Face Painting, antique cars, cycling activities, Grand River Transit displays

A charity barbeque served by members of the Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters Association with donations going to KidsAbility Centre for Child Development

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open our first complete street will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the KidsAbility parking lot

The completion of Waterloo’s first complete street was made possible due to the generous contributions from the governments of Canada and Ontario who each committed up to $966,413, with the City contributing up to $966,413 as well.

At 12:00 p.m. there will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony near the KidsAbility parking lot with Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, Elizabeth Witmer, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, and  Diane Freeman, Ward Councillor of the City of Waterloo.
