Waterloo Fire Rescue firefighters received a 9-1-1 call to house fire on Kiwanis Park drive in Waterloo yesterday.
Upon arrival by firefighters they observed heavy fire damage conditions to the roof area of the house. Fire crews conducted an aggressive exterior attack to ensure that the fire did not spread to adjoining houses.
Firefighters did an internal sweep of the house to discover all residents were away at the time of all the blaze.
Fire crews were on scene all night monitoring for hot spots and the investigation is underway.
There are no injuries to residents or firefighters.
Preliminary property damage estimates are over $1,000,000.
Waterloo Fire Rescue reminds everyone that smoke alarms are mandatory in all homes. Residents must ensure that they are installed on every storey of the house, outside sleeping areas and that they are operating at all times. A family home escape plan should be prepared and practiced regularly so that everyone can get out and stay out alive.
