FCM President visits quake-ravaged Haiti

The new President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities is making his first overseas trip to a nation devastated by an earthquake.

Berry Vrbanovic has spend the past week in Haiti and has been seeing first-hand how relief efforts are still being used, since the devastating earthquake in January of last year.

On the phone from Haiti, he tells 570 News, the experience has been an eye-opener with much of the infrastructure still destroyed and communities of thousands still living in tents.

Vrbanovic says FCM and its partners recently launched the Haiti-Canada Municipal Cooperation Project thanks to funding from the Canadian International Development Agency.

The goal is to provide assistance for the reconstruction of the country, by strengthening institutions in several Haitian municipalities.
