RIM shareholders meeting tonight

Tonight’s annual general meeting of Research in Motion shareholders will be like no other as the company grapples with poorer-than-expected quarterly results and a shocking profit warning.

Globe and Mail tech reporter Omar El-Akkad tells 570 News, shareholders are anxious to see what RIM’s response will be. He says, “Since January, RIM’s stock price has basically lost half its value and that’s left a lot of investors very, very nervous. So there are going to be people who are paying attention to see what RIM’s plan is for the next six months leading into 2012.”

Research in Motion has said it will introduce a new line of smartphones next year but El-Akkad says investors want to be assured now that the ship is being righted.

El-Akkad says some observers believe a management shakeup remains a possibility.
