Kitchener Food Tampering

On July 11, 2011, police were contacted by a Kitchener resident regarding the discovery of a pointed metal object in an ice cream bar. The object was described as a 2 inch sewing needle.
The resident had purchased a box of Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Dark Chocolate ice cream bars on Friday July 8, 2011 at the Food Basics grocery store on Fischer Hallman Road.
The product had a “Best-Before” date of 12 January 13
The ice cream and the metal object were returned to the store on July 9, 2011 for further examination.
No injuries were sustained as a result of this incident.
Region of Waterloo Public Health inspectors have been made aware of the incident.
Waterloo Regional Police encourage anyone who suspects food tampering to report the incident at once.
