One of the lawyers who prosecuted Conrad Black in 2007 says she’s satisfied the fallen media tycoon is going back to prison.
Julie Ruder-Porter commented after a Chicago judge resentenced the Montreal born Black to 42-months for fraud and obstruction of justice.
Minus the 29-months he spent in a Florida prison, Black is expected to spend another eight-to-13 months behind bars.
Ruder-Porter says Black has never accepted responsibility for defrauding Hollinger shareholders — nor shown any remorse for his crimes. And, she says the court is making it clear that it takes a very hard line with corporate executives who steal.
Black has six weeks to get his affairs in order before reporting to prison.
When he’s released, he will be deported from the United States.
Black has expressed interest in returning to Canada despite having renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2001 to take a seat in Britain’s House of Lords.
